IPhone 5 V.S. Galaxy Note 2

Since the announcement of the two giants of the smartphone era, I have been waiting to look into these two and make a comparison. I will discuss several aspects and features of both devices and tell you what I think (My own opinion).

It is not new to us that the galaxy note family features two of the biggest smartphones the industry has to offer. The dimensions of the galaxy note 2 are 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm (height x width x thickness) and it is 183 g in weight. On the other hand, the dimensions of iPhone 5 are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and is slightly slimmer than the Galaxy note 2.

Now let’s dive a bit deeper into the screen. The iPhone 5 features an LED-backlit IPS TFT, capacitive touchscreen which is 4.0 inches in diagonal measurement and has a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels with a pixel density of approximately 326 ppi. The Note 2 has a large Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen , 5.5 inches diagonally, resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of about 267 ppi.

Both screens are multi-touch, contain 16 million colors and feature the Corning Gorilla Glass. If you are familiar with both displays (Retina display and Super AMOLED), you may agree with me that the Super AMOLED is more captivating than the Retina display. The Retina display gives colors close to real colors while the colors in Super AMOLED seem to be a bit over-saturated but still gives a more appealing output.

As we all know, the iPhone 5 runs on Apple’s mobile OS (iOS) while the Note 2 runs on Google’s Android. Galaxy Note 2 operates with Android version 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) , contains Samsung’s Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and is Quad-Core with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. The iPhone 5 runs on iOS 6 (which is the latest version of the OS), contains Apple’s A6 chipset and is Dual-Core with a frequency of 1.2 GHz.

From this data, we can agree that the Note 2 has more processing power than iPhone 5. However, I will not deny the power of iPhone 5 and the speed with which it processes data. I have to say the iPhone 5 is still worthy of being referred to as a competition to the Note 2 when it comes to processing.

Aside the processor, we all know that the iOS is the simpler one when compared to Android OS which gives Android the opportunity to be referred to as the more advanced one.

I will not go into much details concerning the cameras .Since both cameras have very similar specs, it’s not very easy to tell the difference because of there different display technologies.

When it comes to battery life, the galaxy note 2 wins (3100 mAh) against iPhone 5 (1440 mAh).

With these basic features considered, I will go for the Galaxy Note 2 because of its larger and more brilliant display and the more powerful processor. However, if you don’t want to look like a freak carrying a large gadget around and you also want something more simple to operate , then you can go for the iPhone 5.

The Galaxy Note 2 also surpasses the iPhone 5 in function because of the presence of the S-Pen which has it’s own applications and it makes the phone stand above most of the other smartphones out there (if not all).

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 is a better choice over the iPhone 5.
